Hey get this, my son was in an accident and I was deeply concerned. (he's fine) I was so depressed I gave up on cleaning my tanks for 2 weeks. Well, today I decided I had better get busy, my canas, and brigs are messy, along with ghost shrimp, 5 guppies and 4 scissortails are in the tank too. I was expecting the worst! I knew my 2 one gallons were going to be full of (you know what). But I knew I had to do it.
I cleaned my 2 one G's, they both have guppies and snails (added about a month ago). I knew these two were going to be the worst, they are both way overstocked. I cleaned the walls, water change in both and I could not believe how clean they were. The water was not even full of excess debris like they usually are.
I knew it was the snails.
Then I cleaned my 10G, I knew this was going to be the worst having alot of fish in there. NOPE!!!
The water was damn near crystal! I couldn't believe it! I have always been real picky about cleaning tanks at least once a week, but I was too upset.
The trumpets are now my best friend! I know it was them! Cause I didn't clean the tanks and my hubby is not allowed to touch my tanks.
Good ol' trumpets!
Can you buy trumpet snails in a fish shop or not?
Bartier, Here in the states I did. But from what I have heard from others they are hard to find here. I didn't have a problem, I went to the LFS and they were only 25 cents each.
They don't bother your live plants and they stir the gravel. They are mostly nocturnal so to see how many you actually have in your tank you have to leave the lights off and then turn them on. They will all be on the glass.
I have my light on so much so I don't see them that often. Whenever I clean my tank though, I make sure they are not in my syphon.
for some odd reason, I can't seem to even bother them. They must be very happy.
Sorry for the late response, been real busy lately. BTW, haven't even seen you on yahoo. :?:
Cool maybe I will get some if I get the chance.
Most LFS will just give away their Trumpets, because they can't tell the difference between those and pond snails :)
I got a half-inch trumpet for free from my fav. LFS the other day. He went in my 2 gallon hex to help keep the algae down, and to keep the bottom clean. They're wonderful little guys, and the keep gravel vaccing needs down!! Wonderful little clean up crews!! :D
