First:

Is the tank cycled?

How long has it been up, etc?

What kind of filtration?

I'd like a little more info before I give you any opinions/advice. :D

:o You do not need to post too much. Sinking pellets, for cory's.

P.S. You won't get much a response from posting that many times, good thing I have tanks on the computer desk.

Welcome BTW, I would add a few guppies (male Only), or bigger fish in the tetra area, mid dwellers, compatiblels are many. See More on the forums, specified.

Though that is my opinion. Others may know more.

Your tank is probably not cycled then as a week seems rather quick. What are the levels for Nitrite, Nitrate, and Ammonia?

CatLover - April 22, 2006 08:49 PM (GMT)
Yeah, its pretty much impossible to cycle a tank in a week.

Is this your first tank? It kinda helps us to know if its your first so that we don't tell you anything you already know.

Welcome! :D

I say guppies, but to me the way the tank looks may help to determine what fish would look better in it, like colorful fish that each one has it's own colors or some that are the same spieces with the same colors as each other. But more fish then just the catfish sounds better, but its your choice. Let the tank cycle alittle longer to.

What is up with the three posts they are all the same.

Get some different fish it will make the tank much more active as the catfish will tend to stay at the bottom.

guppies are great, just beware of how quickly they reproduce

The cories are great for a 10 gallon. Maybe a group (4-6) of small schooling fish would be nice. (maybe small tetra or perhaps danios or maybe small rasboras- I haven't kept rasboras, but surely someone on here has)

I have a 10 gallon that has 3 elegant cories and 1 male betta. Most people prefer more fish than what I have in that tank, but I love it

here is the betta

You could also keep more than one female in a "betta sorarity" But NEVER more than one male.

There are some people on here that keep betta sorarities that could give you some pointers.

But, in my opinion, you are not ready to add anything else yet as the cycle has probably barely started at one week. If you add stuff now, you take a great risk of losing your fish- particularly if you get tetra.

Good Luck!
(and it would be helpful if we know what kind of filter you have)

:D

i am waiting for the cycle to finish before i get more fish! so i wanted to know what to put.

i have a whisper 10i filter

Octoberfest - May 11, 2006 12:59 AM (GMT)
first off, i personally would junk the whisper. they really are mediocre filters. find a aquaclear. they're the best powerfilters out there.

i might just have a school of 6-8 cories in the tank. they're a ton of fun when in a big group.

I voted for more Cory's. They feel more comfortable in groups.

very true. how many should i have in a 10g tank :music: Ray Scott, Gone Eather Way

FishyFry - May 12, 2006 11:53 PM (GMT)
hm... yes, and herein lies the problem...be careful here. They will grow up to 2 1/2 to 3". Typically, you would want 5 or 6 at the least in a 30 gallon In the case of a 10 gallon, I would not go more than 3 total to get the best of numbers, yet not overstock the tank.

Octoberfest - May 13, 2006 01:50 AM (GMT)
I disagree. bronzes and albinos never reach more than 2''. the only ones that might go as large as 3 are the "emerald green" cories, which arent a corycat at all, and maybe some unusual type not likely to be seen in the hobby. I have a trio of albinos that were well over 2 years old and they never grew larger than 1.75 to 2''

Bronz cory catfish - May 13, 2006 07:27 AM (GMT)
i have seen 2 almost 3in bronz corys

CatLover - May 13, 2006 07:41 PM (GMT)
I think it very much varies on the source as to what size bronze cories can get. I've seen some pretty good sized ones at my lfs.
