Title: Archer Fish

I got a new fish today, an archerfish. It is just about the coolest fish I have ever had and I was wondering if anyone else has ever had one.
What's so great about them you might ask. Well they have developed to shoot water from their mouths with great accuracy and distance to knock insects into the water. I have had mine for about an hour and it has already shot 3 crickets. Apparently when fully grown they can shoot up to 1.5m :)
Here is a site with some more information on them.

They are really cool fish but they need lots of attention. Check out this page on them.

Yup I think I can handle that. Have to wait and see if something goes wrong I will be right on here talking about it.

I didn't realise it said brackish is there anything I could find around the house that I could use instead of aquaria salt. If not I might have to wait. How long do you think it can last in freshwater?

Use NON-iodized table salt (most table salt is iodized, look for the non-iodized stuff). That works in a pinch temporarily, but go light on the mixture, 1 cup per 10g is more than enough for a temporary brackish solution.

You can also try kosher salt or sea salt. You could find it cheap at any gocery store.

Next time you are at your local fish store, I'd find a bag of Instant Ocean. I get mine for 15 dollars for a 50 gallon mix bag.

I have some salt that says naturally evaporated sea salt on it. Could I use this?

The ingredients of it are: salt, anti-caking agent (554). It says nothing about being iodized or non-iodized.

Isn't Kosher salt Iodized? Or am I thinking exactly opposite?
Nice fish.
