Title: Salt

I got a humdinger of a question
Still have the problem, It appears that some of the salt is sitting at the bottom of the tank where the gravel sand mix is, the Specific gravity measures 1.022 but fluctuates a bit, I dont have a test kit but the tank has a hydrometer I think It's called. my question is, is it OK to have some undisolved salt in there and have Live Rock and some small fish?

What size is the tank and how long has the tank been setup? So you can actually see undissolved salt on the substrate? When you do a water change do you add salt directly to the tank?

It's a 24 gal bow front,
it was all dissolved but when I added the water there is a very fine mist of it

This may sound stupid, but - was it aquarium salt?

Do they look like little white speckle. If they are then I think your salt is over due. My old instant ocean salt always do that. The bag was opened for one month and was forgotten to be closed. When I made some water for my freshwater flounder (making brack water) I always see some white speckles. SO i think your salt is just over due and just need to get some new ones.

I just bought it! my live rock seems to love it, all the little critters are out an about, Current Temp is 74.4 Gravity is 1.022 steady no live stock yet, later today, It's just in the small corners and inflow tube for my filter you can see a very light dusting, but it's holding it's own so I'm not gonna worry about it too much

I think the problem was that the salt didnt have enough time to dissolve. Maybe that was the problem.

It's been in there a week now

I give up, I had a Tomato clown and a peppermint shrimp, The onlything that looks alive is the live rock. I'm giving up on marine....bad choice on my part I think

Why are you giving up on marine tanks?

I think one week is too soon for fish. And why are u giving up? Everyone messes up the first time.

Your temperature is alittle low, as a temperature of 76-80F is what you want it to be at.

I adjusted , It's 79.8 Gravity 1.023 the only thing in there is a Serpentine star, Coral beauty Lunar Wrasse and a Tomato clown. (going for a larger tank soon. Just wanted to see if I can make a go of a small one for awhile) I had 2 peppermint shrimp....for a total of 5 minutes.. I think the wrasse had somthing to do with it... I dont know.
