Title: Clownfish
Sergeant Major - April 5, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
I have to say, this new clownfish has to be one of the coolest fish I've ever owned!
I am curious though, I've heard a couple of differing opinions on this. Do clownfish do better with a companion or without?

Sure you can keep a single Ocellaris Clownfish but why not add another Ocellaris to give him company. If the fish is a peaceful species and can coexist with their own kind then I would say adding a couple or even a few is better than a single specimen. If you do decide to add another Ocellaris then pick a small Clown so that you don't get two females. If you get two Clowns small from the same tank they should both be males, then the dominant fish will then mature into a female. It is your choice on whether or not you want to add another Ocellaris.
What other fish do you have planned for your tank? Your tank is a 29g correct? :)

Don't worry, I have pics on the way... well, they are being developed actually, I won't actually get them until Friday.
I used my regular camera to get some better photos this time.

I plan on getting one more clown fish, a baby blue tang or yellow tang and a scooter blenny. Yes it is a 29g tank.
I have a question though. Like I mentioned in my previous post, my tank is still cycling and its been 38 days. My ammonia and nitrite is almost undetectable but im not getting any nitrate reading. Is this a problem? Also, I keep getting red slimy algae, what is the easiest way to get rid of them?
Sergeant Major - April 8, 2006 12:56 PM (GMT)
That was my wife... :)
The tank has been cycling since Christmas... it's got 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 0 nitrates for the past 2 months... and we keep getting red slime algae because she rinses her cleaning sponge in tap water before cleaning the tank, which keeps putting nutrients in there for them.
She is right about one thing though... technically that is her tank and consequently her fish. :D Oh well, what can a guy do, right?

Here is the clownfish... nemo is what we named him.

Great looking Clownfish. I think Nemo suits him quite well :)

Today I was given three "fish" for the 29g... a yellowtail damselfish, a spotted cardinalfish, and a pencil urchin. I know, adding 3 at once is bad, but I was given the lot, the spotted cardinalfish might only be temporary anyway. But I like the damselfish and urchin so much that I don't think I'll give them up. I'll just have to do minor daily water changes for a while to help offset the mini-cycle until I get rid of the cardinalfish.

Post some pictures we would love to see.

I will when I can... I'm trying to take all of my pictures on my SLR (not digital), so it takes a while still for developing. But the quality is so much better than my camera-phone.

Well I can't wait to see :).
