Title: Which skimmer would be better?
MAZZA_402 - April 4, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
The visi-jet or the seaclone? Both of these are in my price range, but I'm wondering which would be better for my 29 gallon tank. It's going to be the skimmer for this tank only. When I upgrade, I'm going to set up my sump and my turboflotor 1000.
For the meantime though, which is better? The visi-jet or seaclone? Or am I making a mistake with either of them? Will either of them get the job done?

I'm guessing that the seaclone would be better. Try to see which one has a better gph, and i think a visi-jet is an internet, so i think an external skimmer would be better. But perfectblue would know more.

Both Protein Skimmers from what I've heard are not very good skimmers. Another protein skimmer you might want to look into are Coralife Super Skimmer as I've heard great things about them and they are a decent price. How much is the Seaclone and Visi-jet where you were going to purchase them? because you might be able to get a better deal online. So this skimmer is only going to be for your 29g and then when you upgrade you are switching to your Turboflotor? When are you going to upgrade tanks?

I presently use the coralife 65. It is a very good skimmer and can be purchased for not much more than the seaclone or visi-jet. Just takes about 2weeks for the coralife skimmer to get broke in. After that they work great.

Is a ps75 odyssea skimmer bad then? My powerhead is still coming in. It should be here on friday along with my Pc lights.

The visi-jet is an internet? :P
I've actually decided to crap the skimmer idea for the moment... I've decided on the coralife skimmer though. The visi-jet was about 25 dollars and the seaclone was 79. Not a great deal on the seaclone if you ask me.
I'm giong to pick up two clownfish this weekend, and a new hydrometer, and another powerhead. I might even pick up a single clownfish and get some nitrifying bacteria booster. Like biospira for my tank to help things along. Will that help a FOWLR? Or only those tanks with a filter?
r33f-boy - April 6, 2006 06:15 PM (GMT)
I think that is a great idea. The biospira would work for a FOWLR combination. The live rocks are sort of like filters if you ask me :D

Bio-Spira will help speed up the cycle but isn't necessary imo. I would also wait until your tank has completely cycled before adding your cleanup and fish.
