Title: What would you do?
Description: Stocking question

MAZZA_402 - April 1, 2006 08:07 PM (GMT)
So I'm at ends on where to go next with my saltwater stocking plan. I've got a rough idea of what I want, but I'm trying to trim things up a bit.

I'm now thinking that I want to keep my yellowtail damselfish, add a ocellaris clown, and a hi fin red banded goby and shrimp pair, a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp and various hermits and snails as cleanup crew. What do you guys think?

Do not put the scarlet skunk in with the yellow tail, dangerous deal!!!!

APRIL FOOLS!
I know nothing of these fish......'J'

Damsels are very aggressive and territorial, so you very limited to what fish can be housed with them. Maybe a larger aggressive Clownfish such as a Tomato, Dottybacks, or Pseudochromids. You could even house a small species of Hawkfish such as Flame Hawkfish although you might not be able to have any shrimp since they may eat ornamental shrimp such as Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. If you were to remove the Damsel then you could have one or two Ocellaris Clownfish, one Hi Fin Banded Goby, and another small fish. Also it depends on the personality of the fish since some fish are just more timid then others, as your Damsel may be peaceful to other fish that are introduced. Since your Damsel is used to its surroundings then right before you add the other fish change around the rockwork.

I kept a Yellowtail Damsel in a 55g awhile ago and he would chase all the other fish around, and finally I removed him and everything settled down.

What fish do you really want to have? then we can try and work out a stocking plan that will work. :)

I'm going to remove the damsel and go with a pair of clowns, a goby, and some other sort of fish.. maybe a small wrasse?

Go with a skunk cleaner shrimp and some snails / crabs for clean up.

What other fish do you think would be good?

An excellent small wrasse is the six line wrasse (Pseudocheilinus hexataenia). I have one of these fish, they are peacefull, very colorfull, easy to feed, hardy, get about 2-3" and are fascinating to watch!

What kind of goby are you getting??

what size of tank?

What about blennies, or dragonets?

If you're going to go with a goby, go with a Catalina Goby, they are my faves.
