Title: Everybody say hi to Starvin Marvin!
hakkobetta - March 26, 2006 06:17 AM (GMT)
Alrighty...another rescue.
I couldn't help it. -_-
Anyways, so I went to one of my LFS's with my dog on a shopping trip, and I came back with Starvin Marvin.
This poor betta hasn't been fed in about a month, so he looks like a skull with a wiggle attached, pretty much. He's an opaque white with a touch of black in his fins. The boy at the store told me they didn't feed them at all!
Anyways, here's the pics! I've been hand feeding him betta pellets with a set of tweezers, he's too weak to really swim around much. He does every once in a while though. Such a sweetie.
Starvin Marvin just chillin.

Starvin Marvin from above! look how SKINNY!!!

Starvin Marvin's prominent backbone and large head.

Poor thing, I've stopped shopping at places with no policy about betta's they never take or change out water in the cups they come in, the place I shop has
3 400 Gallon tanks divided off so that all the bettas have atlease 10-20 gallons to themselves and filtration.

I have my own opinion, but what you have described... TB :(
Let us know one way or the other, but if you really don't know, a broad spectrum may help. For those of you that do not know that term. it is a combonation of all meds for your fishies. I believe it to be in any LFS, Let us know.

Wow. That betta is really skinny. I feel sad for it. I would so kiill the works there. How much was it for? And keep going on rescuing bettas :D

I paid $4.27 for this little guy. I'm so proud of him right now, he was sitting at the top of the water, and he actually tried to eat by himself!!!
It was a great moment in Starvin Marvin's history. I have to make the betta pellets all squooshy before I feed them to him, but when I put betta flakes on top of the water...whoa! He actually chomped down. He only got a tiny piece because his movement made the water move the flake, but he seemed to be very happy with his little bit of food.
Right now I'm just using aquarium salt in the water to keep him calm.
Everybody just pray that he gets fatter and fatter as the week goes on!

He would be fat in 1 week if he keeps eating like that. You should feed him more protein foods like frozen bloodworms and blackworms to make him become fatter :D

Keepin my fingers crossed.

He doesn't seem very interested in the blood worms, but the flakes and pellets are a big fav. He's already showing more weight around his stomach area, and he's started to unclamp his fins. I'll post some improvement pictures soon, as it's not quite after yet! ;D
