Polaris.northstar - March 24, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
I finially got my Giant Jack Dempsy I've had my heart set on, He's a monster of a fish at 8.5 inches, what do they like to eat as a treat?

I've heard of a lot of people feeding blood worms as a treat to dempseys, you could also go natural with some insects (gut loaded crickets for example).

You should definately try some pinkies, krill, and lots of insects anything you could get your hands on. Whenn do we see some pics?

They are all on my phone atm, do dempsy's always lurk or are they always out? Mine just tends to hide in the weeds, It's in A QT tank with a Ghost knife but other then it the poor fella lurks at the bottom and just sits for hours at a time.

the thought occurs to me that what other fish can be kept with the dempsy and what temp do they prefer, right now it's at 72.8 ph 6.8-7.0 (stupid testing kit) no Substrate yet, Pics to come soon tho

The temp should be around 77-80 I keep the ph 7.5 but they are really flexible.
Make sure nobody is tapping on the glass because they tend to get a bit skiddish from time to time. Like I posted before Pinkies which are frozen baby mice, and feeder fish would definately get him going. I forgot to add they love snails too.

Is there a picture of your Giant Dempsy in here at all?

Try adding some dither fish like silver dollars or giant danio. These help control agression and would make the fish less shy. But these are schooling fish and needs three or more together.
