18th January 2006Got my pond! $155 plus a 89c bucket for the filter. ;)

19th January 2006I decided to test the temperature in the position of my outdoor pond. I got a thermometer from one of my tanks, took it out and placed it in the pond (though there is no water in the pond). Came inside, watched a segment of telly and went out to the thermometer. the 'red stuff' is as high as it can go (past 50, which it wasn't, but whatever). It's well and truely rooted now. It wasn't a good one (perhaps obviously?), but still... The start to my saga.
Later, I was sitting right here in the lounge room. The couch is next to the fish tank. I was watching telly. I suddenly hear violent splashing. The 'safety switch' in my tank (which is supposed to switch the trickle filter pump off) had, for some unknown reason, not worked! Water was running all down the side and corner of the tank.
Good thing I was right here! I lept up so quick (never seen me move that fast before!) and ran around in circles twice before switching it off at the switch. Water got all over the powerboard, but not inside it. There was probably about 5 litres of water, if that, on the floor. I'm so glad I was home!
20th January 2006This morning I got up and, when my tank light switched on (it's on a timer), I realised a harlequin rasbora was trapped in the overflow section. No worries, I thought... Nope. Not even my spesh little catcher thing was working (the guy was very stressed and just sitting there). Argh!
So I decided to turn the pump off so I could then take off the cover of the siphon (so rasbora wouldn't get sucked down) and then catch fish. So I opened the cabinent door and switch off the siphon (a valve). The tank fills up, safety switch cuts the pump off and we're good.
I don't know what I did next. I went to the loo. I got a drink. SOMETHING.
I came back in and heard a splashing sound... I open the cupboard doors and realise that water is siphoning from the tank into the filter via the hose connected to the pump. About 20 litres of water was sitting in the floor of my cabinent! ARGH!
So I spent the rest of the day mopping up the water and blow drying it. I used about 4 towels, I think, mopping up the water. It's a 43C day and I was carting buckets of water everywhere and chucking towels and the carpet (that sits around the filter to lessen noise) on the line. All before I had even gotten dressed... And then I couldn't have a shower because I had !@#$ from inside my tank drip drying in the bathtub!
THEN!!! As I was feeding them, I dropped one of the containers on the ground. Shrimp pellets everywhere... Luckily it wasn't flakes... Not the worst, but still - how bad days are sure to end. I laughed, and tried to fend off the dog who eats anything. I saved most of them, thankfully!
23rd January 20063 clown loaches! Added to my 5ft.
24th January 2006One of the clowns:
