Title: Red terror

I was at petsmart today and saw some RED TERROR! They are about 3/4 an inch. I couldnt help myself. It was the first time I saw one in person. So I reserved 4 of them :P And i just need to wait until I get a new 125 gallon tank. And I might put them in my 55 gallon tank. :D And I know its too small. But maybe it won't hurt to have a pair in there. Right?

Amphilophus festae
Festa's Cichlid, Red Terror

This fish get huge fast, and you will not be able to keep 4 of
them in a 55g for very long because of their aggression,
If you should be lucky enough to get a pair from the 4 juvies
i would remove the others and keep the pair.
Some people even recommend you keep a divider in the tank
to seperate the male and female untill they are ready to breed.
In saying all that , they are a very beautiful cichlid and i wish
you all the best with them, :)

That was in my mind too. I was wanting to keep only a pair in there. And after taht I'll sell the others :P Which i know people would buy. And then raise my own FRY :D

Festae are great cichlids! And truth be told...not as aggressive as some folks think. I have a few now that get along fine until spawning time. Your plan to get a "group" and wait for a pairing is sound. Good luck with them and enjoy!

I agree on the tank size being small for RT. You might get away with a pair but four would definately be pushing it as you were thinking.
Allthough not critical to produce fry, if you wish to breed them and get viable fry for sale you really should breed from different linage as the one's you are getting are likely siblings. You also won't know how many generations they may of possibly been inbred by anyone else (allthough most reputable LFS suppliers will do there best to avoid inbred stock).
