Title: Slate

The LFS usually has a selection of slate, but you know it costs. So I made a visit to the Lowe's (home improvement superstore) one day and checked out the slate tile section. Wow! A wide variety to choose from, and best of all, $1.99 a piece for a whole tile.

I brought a couple pieces home, layed them on a towel over a rug and gave 'em a couple of whacks with the hammer. Viola! Instant decorations. I ended up with a variety of sizes and thicknesses. Of course I washed the stuff off the back first and then boiled them for a bit before arranging them in the tank.

Here are a couple of pics. I already had the two end supports in the tank, but a piece of rainbow rock was setting across them.

did you get that suggestion from my site? Cause I have that in there, just not going to buy it though. I said to look around the yard or down the road. This is my free cave from rocks I found. I like the way you set that up!

 What a ham he is! A good looking too! Actually, I didn't see it on your site when I was visiting there recently. I'll have to visit again and see what else I missed. I bought the slate some time back when I needed to rearrange the Convicts tank and borrowed the Rainbow Rock to straddle over some small brick pieces for a house. Nice piece you have there.

That looks really good. :) Nice. Will have to remember to check out hardware stores. ;)

 That's a GREAT idea! I will definately try that in my cichlid tank, I'm not very happy with the rocks I have in there now anyway, and I could re-use them in the SW tank as some base-rock to get some more live rock from.
