I have caught tonnes of pregnant guppies out of my dam if that counts.

Well, all livebearers are pretty much going to be pregnant... But are you talking about fish that are gravid?

I brought home eggs from a shop on a plant once, if that counts?

Oooh... what were the eggs? Did they hatch?

Theres about a 99% chance that a female guppy who has been exposed to males is pregnant. Unless, you buy her from a virgin females tank-these are not at most fish stores.

LOL I have never bought a guppy that was preganat :( how is anyone able to mangage to get lucky and get one

I just gave all of my guppies to the lfs. I was so glad to get rid of them. They are breeding machines. In fact, one of the females gave birth the night before I took them in! There was another one that was also pregnant when I took them in. Their fry turned out to be very nice guppies. But, I was not trying to start a breeding opperation and they were quickly overpopulating!

I have been wanting to find a home for them for ages! The guy gave me a discount on my new betta, so it was like a bonus. He commented on the beautiful large male, I wanted to say, "As you can see, he is also quite fertile!"

I found no way to keep them from breeding other than separating the males, but they aren't happy without all of their females.

and you have the opposite problem

lol that is weird. Maybe you should buy a fish that is really hard to breed and you might find it easy.

I started out with 6 virgin female guppys, and breed them with my prettiest males. My oldest male guppy is still not full grown to see what he will look like yet. I named him, Albert.

I don't know. :( I think they might of been pencilfish... That's what was in the tank, anyway, when I went back a few weeks later... But the eggs died... Or were never alive to start off with.

I've brought home pregnant livebearers, but I've been very unsuccessful in rearing fry and keeping them alive. I had about 10 guppies live to adult hood in my first batch (4 years ago or so), and one sailfin... That's all. Livebearers don't like me.
