Title: AFRICAN DWARF FROGS WITH A BETTA?

CatLover - March 11, 2006 12:49 AM (GMT)
Have any of ya'll ever kept African Dwarf frogs?

I am considering a betta and a couple African Dwarf frogs for a 10 gallon.

Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated! :D

That'd be me. They'd be fine. Love the likkle buggars.

What do you feed yours? I've read a lot about keeping them and everyone seems to say totally different things.

Thanks! :D

From what I've heard it will be totally fine. Bettas are relatively peaceful except for the males, and even then it's only toward flashy or colorful fish. I'd say you could probably feed them bloodworms, beefheart, or shrimp pellets. I've never kept any personally but I'd be interested in knowing more about them. Let us know what you find out, CatLover.

The Dwarf Frogs work well with bettas and community fish I got 1 in my 29 gallon and he does really well I used to have a couple LONG ago when I started as a child.

Feed them frozen bloodworms in the beginning, and after a long time they will learn to eat from the top. They aren't the smartest creatures, as you will soon find out. As soon as they smell the water they start snapping around for the food. They try to eat the other's legs, moss, plants, sticks, andything, really, until they find the food.

lol i think i know people like that

Do you think that they could eat freeze dried bloodworms and freeze dried brine shrimp? That is what I keep for my other fish. Supposedly they retain nutrients better than the frozen kind.

Thanks!

It doesn't sink, so no. Maybe you'll get a smart one, but don't count on it. Good luck with the new froggie and post pictures!

I had three of them at one time then they just disappeared. I looked on the floor, I think they got eaten by my guppies. They may have gotten sick and I didn't know it. They hid pretty good on me.

Yep, ADF's would be a good tank mate for your Betta. The little buggers don't see very well, which is why I feed mine off the end of a bamboo skewer (blunt end), tweezers or you can even use a turkey baster to shoot bloodworms to him/her (so I've read...never used one to feed my frog though). He gets a variety of frozen bloodworms and beef heart, along with other frozen foods that drop down from the Platy's. Here are some good links for ADF care:
