I was just wondering cause I don't but does anyone wear gloves when cleaning their aquarium I saw this on another fish board and thought I'd ask.

Cichlid Commander - March 9, 2006 04:56 AM (GMT)
no I don't either

I don't clean, I just do waterchanges...

That would be pointless for me. I like to pet my fish while I am messing with their tanks.

But I do every time my dempsey's are in spawning mode. My male is 6.5" and he has hit my arm a couple of times defending the eggs. I think you get more scared because when it happens the first time you don't expect it. Its not that serious now, i just keep a good eye on him when I clean the tank.

Nope.

I wish I didn't have to. It is extremely inconvenient. Unfortunately, I break out in some kind of creaping crud if I get my hands and arms in the water too much. I might go gloveless to quickly stick a plant in the substrate, but that's it.

I don't wear gloves, but I always feel like a surgeon or something washing up!

Do ya'll have any particular washing methods for your hands?

bartier - March 10, 2006 07:50 AM (GMT)
i never use gloves that would be weird

I know I am more likely to wear gloves whenever I have cuts on my hand, no matter how small. I always make sure to thorougly wash my hands after doing any aquarium maintenance. You should read Seargant Major's post on Tuberculosis in the disease profiles. It will REALLY make you think twice about wearing gloves.

Fish can have tuberculosis for quite a long time before showing ANY symptoms, and most of the symptoms are similiar to that of fin rot. If you work on your tank and have any cuts on your hands or arms, you can contract TB.

Scary thought.
