Title: Male and Female Bettas

GuppyBabe - March 8, 2006 01:11 AM (GMT)
Do the males usually have a favorite female that they like or do they not care? Cause I have a blue-white male who doesn't like any other female except the ones swith white colors.
And what is the recommended tank size for them to breed in? cause two of my reds bred in a little tank that was only a few ounces.
Last question, what do u think of a Red male Breeding with a blue female, is it a good combination?

Red and blue are a great combination! with reguard to tank size when breeding, the bigger the better as water quality is generally improved the larger you go. I don't know if they are selective in their mates, but I do know that they arn't like other fish that will form a family pair and then won't mate with any other fish.

lol when bredding bettas red and blue dont = purple

ok

are you mating veils crowns or plakats

lol when breeding bettas size does not matter with anything over 3 gallons.

in general tos a male and a female in together yeah shes going to get an ass whuppin from him but she likes it they useully wont breed if the male dont hand out some beatings the female needs to know hes a tough guy. heres my setup i used

useually a breeding session will give you from 20 - 150 baby bettas but dont worry your first itme around you will probably kill more than half so you dont need that much space

get a heater for a 10g if your useing a 5 g tank but it lengthwize at the very bottom and only add 3 - 4 inches of water. cut a cup in half vertically and set tit in there the male will make a bubble nest in it

also tempreture fluctuiiosn will kill your babies

after they finish mating remove the female but leave the male they female will eat the eggs..

ive got a bunch of free swimmers right now that im growing out

would a 1 or 2 gallon tank work just as well? don't know but thier tails droop down and hang there until they flare up their fins

veil tails

id do a 4g or 5 at very least and use a sponge filter not a power filter cause the fry for the first 3 or 4 weeks basically look like sperm with eyes
