Title: Smurf Fish
Description: Anybody use tank buddies anti-fungal?

Stewie - March 6, 2006 08:44 PM (GMT)
So... with my problem with whatever my problem is with fish dying I ended up with my angelfish getting some mouth fungus. So, I scooted off to the local Pet Co. where I bought these...

Tablets

So, it mentioned nothing about this, but it said in small print "may stain aquatic and non aquatic things. The tablets were a slight green, and I knew that the anti parasite ones left a little chalky residue on the gravel, so I figured that's what it applied to.

I put the tablets, 3, in and removed the carbon as the directions said and came back 15 minutes later.

My tank, to my horror, looks like blue cool-aid. The water is tinted a very heavy blue, and all my fish are blue and look like smurfs.

I am sick, tired, and I don't care at this given point in time. If it doesn't clear up the company of Jungle will feel my wrath.

Any suggestions of what is happening or if anybody has used these before, please let me know.

What is the active ingredient or what does the box say on it as a name? Does it contain Malachite green? I know that can stain stuff.

I figured it out. Supposedly it does turn it blue. They should put that on the box, though.

Does it stay blue or does it slowly flush out as you change water?

I use that stuff both ick and fungus and they turned my tank blue and green, but it didin't turn my fish blue or greenonly the water. So I had to change the water the next day, but it gets rid of the fishy sickness

Oh, the blue stays there for practically ever. It takes a loooong time to flush it out unless you do a 100% change like I did. I got tired of the darn columnaris, so I figured not much would kill it faster than that. The fish are living in temp. tanks as the tank cycles in the next couple days.

And BTW, the fish don't actually turn blue, they just looked like it because their in very, very blue water.
