Title: Hermit Crabs
Description: changing shells
Sergeant Major - March 6, 2006 07:08 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know how to expedite the process of a hermit crab changing shells? mine came in the ugliest shell ever... so I put several nicer ones in there, of comparabile and slightly larger sizes. Now I just need to know how to make him want to change shells faster. Any foods I can feed to make him really bulk up and want to change?

I think the only way he is coming out of that shell is by grwing out of it. I would also try giving him a nice mist bath every once in a while they tend to come out with a nice misting. I never had one but have always been facinated by them.
here is a like that might help you.

Okay I'm confused are you talking about land Hermit crabs or saltwater Hermit crabs?

When I was little, I had hermit crabs. Land hermit crabs.
I dropped one of them on concrete, and broke its shell. I cried and cried and thought it must be going to die.
The next morning it had changed shells.
I don't know how you'd break a land hermie's shell without killing it?

Leema I guess yours was really lucky. ;)

Sorry I should've read the signature. <_<

I just changed it, I realized I got the ID wrong, I had thought it was a mexican dwarf hermit, but later realized that it's actually a scarlet reef.

Well he finally changed shells, and you've never seen someone pull out the old shell faster. He scared me when he changed, too. I didn't know they molted, so when I saw the claws and shell I thought it had died, but then I saw the largest shell I had put in there moving, so I turned it over, and there he was. I'm so happy he's finally in a good looking shell.
