The aquaclear hob filter
Simply one of the best if not the best HOB in the market today. I swear by this workhorse. excellent water polisher, and awesome water movement. I have it on all 3 tanks and never had a problem. I highly recomend this product.
Just some facts from the munufacturer.
Aqua Clear provides thorough aquarium water filtration. Its flow path directs water to the bottom of the filter chamber to ensure total water flow through all the media. No bypass as water rises through the layers of filter material.
Here are the models.

I hear ya....I have countless amounts of these filters, and have tried MANY other brands....but nothing stands in the way of the "brick wall" design of an aquaclear!!!

What I posted on there....

| I have countless numbers of this Hagen product running on my fish "addiction-based" tanks...and have NEVER run into ANY manufacturers defects....this is by FAR my favorite filter....and i will always use them....I had thought about emperors in the past and bought 4, but.....as of now, I am only running an Emperor 280 on 1 tank as the main filter....my 7 gallon....the second of which I own is an Emporor 400, that is only running the bio-wheels on the 50 gallon.....also for current. You just CANNOT beat the performance of an Aquaclear! I swear, AC's have been around in the same design for longer than I have.....all in all, this is the best "bang for your buck" filter on the market! |

And they are extremely cheap. I bought my AC70 for 23 bucks out of an petsolutions.com magazine. I was worried at first because they seemed cheap compared to the other filters price wise. I've quickly found out that these are superb filters. I had a penguin 200 that I had bought because I thought biowheels we're the best filtration you could have in a HOB filter. It's noisy, consistently 'gurgles', and has on several occassions kept me up in the night. If for any reason it loses suction, it starts making an awful gurgling noise and grinding noise. It only seems to do it at 3:00 in the morning when I have to go to work that day.
Don't get me wrong though, it's a great filter. It certainly does it's job and I love the extra media compartment. The AquaClear has to be one of my favorite HOB filters though. I've got mine stuffed with the foam block and two units of biomax. I took out the carbon. I haven't used that stuff in ages. The two bags of biomax create a bacteria haven. I never have problems with the water. Great filter, btw. I'd like to get one for my 10 gallon and get rid of the regent one, but who knows. The P-200 REALLY kept the water clean on the 10 gallon, haha!

I have used models 20, 30, 110. AquaClears are imo the best HOB power filter there is, and I especially like that you can use any media you want in the filter unlike other power filters where you are stuck using the media it comes with. You can even turn AquaClear 70, and 110 into mini fuges for smaller saltwater tanks. All in all a great filter.
