Title: HELP!
r33f-boy - March 5, 2006 06:18 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone. I woked up today and found out that my b3 inch goldfish had dropsy :( I moved the goldfish into my 2 gallon to be isolated. I need help ASAP. IS there any thing i could do to fix this problem. Would medicated food work for it? Just give me all the idea you can. I have had this goldfish for 6 months now. I had it at 1/2 inch from a feeder section. !!!!

Give him shelled peas, cut to bite size pieces. Change your water everyday by at least 20%. Peas make him feel better, and will make him poop. The water change is because you may have to much ammonia in the tank. Dropsy is not a disease. Goldfish need alot of room to grow, they need more than the 1" theory.

Add a broad spectrum antibiotic to the food, or use a medicated food. It might not cure it, as Dropsy is a symptom that can occur outside of bacterial infections. Adding salt to the tank will help a little bit to break the fluid bonds. Other than that, do what jdizine said and if it's not cured soon, it may be best to euthanize the fish, as permanent kidney damage will have happened.

Thanks you guys. I went to see if there was any medicated nfood, but there was non. I found this gel-food for fish. It says.
EFFECTIVE AGAINST:
baterial infection
Ulcers and sores
pop-eye and DROPSY
gill disease.
Its a medicated that fish eats.

Good, hopefully he will eat it with no problems and will get better soon, before permanent kidney damage is done.

How is he doing? I have never used anything but the treatment I mentioned before. I don't have the money to buy fish drugs though. Our babies reacted to my treatment quickly and they are still alive.

My goldfish is doing good so far. He seems a little stress about his hospital tank. Since it's small and the only spare one i have :( I'll give you guys a update for tomorrow.

In this case, I doubt a hospital tank is necessary, since you're treating with medicated food instead of a tank additive. Shouldn't hurt though.

Update:
He is doing fine, But seems to be in a more worste situation then yesterday. Some of his scales are coming off. He seems to start having fungus. I just finish adding some primifix to the water.

Have you been changing his water while in the hospital tank? If he is losing scales that might be why.
Sergeant Major - March 7, 2006 12:37 AM (GMT)
Not in one day though. Scale protrusion is normal durring dropsy, but he shouldn't be losing them.

I wake up early in the morning to change his water today. I did it twice today.

How is he doing now? Did he eat the medicated food?
r33f-boy - March 8, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
Yes now he is starting to eat. I was wondering since almond leaves make their scale better, would it effect against the scale wounds?

Here are a couple of goldfish links to check out in addition to what you are doing. Salt is the one additional treatment they have in common, whether by bath or adding to the quarentine tank.
http://www.petlibrary.com/goldfish/dropsy.htm http://www.goldfishinfo.com/ailment1.htm[Edit]: The scale loss is due to stress, so make sure all the water conditions are correct. A stress coat product will help keep infections down from the scale loss.

r33f, how is he doing? has the water changes helped him? What have you been using to treat him and is he doing better? Did you try feeding him the shelled peas?
r33f-boy - March 9, 2006 02:01 AM (GMT)
He seems to be getting better now! Thanks to all your help!! And I'm very happy you guys helped me. I'll try to get a pix later on.

the way it sounds to me is that maybe the dropsy was a misjudgement and your fish has swim bladder. or maybe it developed into swim bladder. are the bulges red under the scales? i still am keeping with the recommendation of shelled peas! please give that a shot if you haven't yet. go and look at the sites fishyfry posted too! those are real good sites. I have had them bookmarked awhile now because we have GF too.
