Title: Moderator Sign-Up
Description: If you would like to be a moderator
Sergeant Major - March 2, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
If you would be interrested in moderating a forum, please reply to this, or PM Sergeant Major. Include in your reply any particular areas in which you would be more interrested in moderating and why those particular forums interest you.
Thanks. We will contact each of you that is interrested... but it may take a while, so be patient.
EDIT: I need to add a PS - when we do start sending out the offers, don't be surprised if we offer you a forum that isn't what you had requested. I'm sure we will have more than one request for a particular forum, so if you mention more than one that you are interrested in, it will be more likely that you get something that you're interrested in. We also have a couple of people in mind who we think would do well in certain forums.

You would think. Is your reply an indication that you would be interrested?
Forever-Mango - March 3, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)

Mitternacht - March 4, 2006 11:17 PM (GMT)
I hate to double-post but I thought I was a mod? :?:
bartier - March 4, 2006 11:24 PM (GMT)
considering there aren't any yet and next to your name it says members i am guessing not maybe you were offered a position once they are needed :)
Sergeant Major - March 5, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
Sorry everyone, I've been feeling under the weather for the past week or so and have had almost no energy to do anything, so I was a bit slow in setting this all up. Anyway, most of you are up and running now. I believe you all pretty much know what to do... You should be able to see the Admin forum as well now. I am still waiting on replies from a couple of people as to wether or not they will accept the positions offered... and I'm leaving this thread up, because eventually we'd like to have one forum per mod... but we don't have enough members/interest at the moment... also, down the road with a lot more growth, we'll be branching out into some more forums, such as a cichlid only forum, and a betta only forum, etc... But that will have to wait for enough members to make it work.
Mitternacht - March 5, 2006 04:16 AM (GMT)
hope you feel better. :)
that would be cool, a cichlid only forum.
bartier - March 5, 2006 04:40 AM (GMT)
should we introduce ourselves in our forum?
jdizine - March 8, 2006 09:40 AM (GMT)
Bartier, I think that would add warmth. I think it a good idea. Then you feel on more of a personal level and they will too!! Cheers to you! .........'J'bird
bartier - March 11, 2006 07:42 AM (GMT)
I am currently writing up a post on using the forums in general should be ready in a day or two. There isn't to much to moderate in introductions so I figured I should do something. lol
MAZZA_402 - March 12, 2006 03:28 AM (GMT)
You could always do a post such as... Welcome to the forums!!! that new members could read. Perhaps you could put relevant information, talk about what our site has to offer, etc. Might give you some ideas.

At Shootersville I encourage all of my mods and super mods to personalize their forums as much as possible. That "personal touch" can easily spell the differance between success and failure. All of my mods are supposed to start at least one new thread per day as well.
AAO

I certainly agree that personalizing the forum that you moderate would greatly benefit AquaTopiaForum.com. I believe our members would feel more at home. For all of our new moderators out there, remember, it's YOUR forum. You have to own the forum. Personalized forums would be a great touch.

MAZZA what did you have in mind when you said personalize your forum? I know that you can pin a few topics or maybe introduce yourself, but I can't think of any other things you can do.
bartier - March 12, 2006 10:41 AM (GMT)
Yeah I am not following that either.

Don't worry...he won't bite you...I promise! :D

When I say personalize your forums.... instead of thinking of personalization as certain colors or themes, think of it as useful information for members of your specific forum. Perhaps you could research relevant topics to the freshwater community, or enhancements that make reef keeping easier for those of you over the saltwater section. Perhaps there are new products on the market, or breaking news that you would like to share with those that visit your forum. Another way I think of personalization is... whenever someone 'talks' about your forum, they should know that... "Hey, PerfectBlue runs that forum. He's always doing x and y to make that forum great, that's why I always enjoy visiting it.", or "Oh, bartier? Yeah, he is always making funny posts. It really makes it worthwhile to visit just to see what all is going on."
Of course, those are just ideas.
Every fish forum out there has a FRESHWATER AND SALTWATER section, some even have more specialized sections. Now ask yourself, what can you do to make ours different and stand out from the crowd? What can we do to make people want our forum to be their first and last stop? As a moderator, can we research information and make regular posts that might benefit our members? I know as an administrator I am always doing everything I can to make the forum more convenient, enjoyable, accessible, easy to read and informative as possible. If you we're here when the forum was first started, you will definitely notice that things have changed for the better. Our forum has really come a long way, but it has made it this far due to great members like each and every one of you. Your comments, suggestions, and great attitudes have made this forum a great place for each and every one of us. At this rate, I'm sure we will have one of the best, if not the best forum out there!
Now, this all comes back to the original statement. What can we do to make our forum different, more enjoyable for our members, make our guests want to become permanent members, and make an unbelievable impression on the fishkeeping community? That's where you come in. Use your imagination. Theres no set plan to make a perfect forum. You know what you like to see, what you like to read, etc. What makes you stick with a forum? Great information? Great members? Research the information you find beneficial. Recruit members and let them know all the great things our site has to offer and what draws you to it.
Like I said, use your imagination. It's the greatest asset that you have. With all of us working togther, admins, mods and members alike, we can make this forum a force of nature.
OK, now, I'll get off of my soap box. I hope this helps. ^_^
bartier - March 13, 2006 05:41 AM (GMT)
Well mine is pretty much already personalised as this is one of the only forums I have seen with an Introductions page. However that just gave me an idea for my introduction to the site post that I am currently making. I will get back to you on this.
bartier - March 13, 2006 05:47 AM (GMT)
Nevermind I just realised I had already included it.
