Title: Loopback Login Prompt
Description: (resolved)

FishyFry - February 23, 2006 01:19 AM (GMT)
Sgt. Major, have a look at the source code for the forums page. Over the last couple of days, no matter what I click on at Aquatopiaforums, I get prompted for a login from the loopback address. Here is the offending chuck of source code...at least from the forums page. I get the prompt no matter what page I'm on or what I click on. This is the only site where I experience the problem. Thanks much.

Ok, that is odd, because this: <base href="127.0.0.1" /> is part of invision free's source code, and isn't directly changable. What happens when you go to another invisionfree forum such as animal fans? Can you take a screenshot of the login prompt and send it to AquaTopia@bellsouth.net or PM it to me? I am wondering if it's the actual IF login prompt or that one we made a few days ago and took down around yesterday...

its got nothing to do with the source

for those of you who know little to nothign about php and css . you will not see the true source when on forums becuase the php is parsed by the server when you query it. that means what your seeing is the rendered output.

the login problem probably has somthing to do with cookies or sessions. since nobody else has reported it it was probably somethign to do with your computer .

if it happens again try clearing your cache.or useing another browser

Yeah, I was thinking it was still pulling from that popup we did put on here a while back... if the browser isn't checking for newer versions and cookies are disabled, and it was re-cached when we DID have that popup on, then it would make sense to be doing that...

While I'm gathering information for you, let me say that I do not see the problem on the portal page. ... if you view the source, you will not see the 127 loopback address as part of the code. I'll probably work with you in PM or email from here on in. I couldn't find a reference to animal fans in google. Do you have a URL?

<base href="127.0.0.1" /></head> <--- this shows up in the view source, but it is the same on all invision free forums... so maybe this bit may not be the offender. It is un-changable by admin.

ok. So far, all I know is something on the Forums page(s) on this site is causing an attempt to connect to 127.0.0.1 and I have not been able to isolate it. It started a few days ago and continues still. This is before and after running multiple cookie, temp internet file, adware, spyware, registry and other cleanup/repair programs.

oops. Looks like I forgot to log in last time... meanwhile, I found the Animal fans site. I don't have the same problem there. Thanks.

[Edit:] It's not any of the links on the right or at the bottom. Not the Donate link or anywhere on the background. Just happens with any hyperlink on any page except the Portal... and of course, when I first hit the page. I'm sure your Statcounter stats are going to be way off due to my checking around.

I :star: THINK :star: I may have run across what is actually causing it... try it now.

Nope, not yet, but I'm getting more cookies blocked now than I did a few minutes ago.

Don't know if you noticed, but I edited my last post a couple of times with more info.

Interestingly, it does not happen when I click on the Profile card button or the "go to top" button at the bottom of the posts window. It does happen with the links in the quick launch or menu bars at the top of the page, the banner...and it didn't used to.. even after the new banner was in place.

jadefoodog - February 24, 2006 04:53 AM (GMT)

 Resolved by deleting the Aqua Pets UK links to banner ads and voting from the site!

FishyFry - February 25, 2006 12:02 AM (GMT)
Yea! I wonder why the problem didn't show up when I actually clicked on that link. At any rate, I'm glad to see the problem is gone. It was really making it difficult to navigate around. Thanks!!! :)

Sergeant Major - February 25, 2006 03:07 AM (GMT)
I think it was because it was trying to execute server-side commands from within the blocked account.
