Title: anemone ident.

Can anyone here identify this anemone. The LFS said it is a long tentacle anemone, but it almost looks like my Condy.

Hmm it could be many different species of Anemones. What color is the column or base?

It could be a Long Tentacle, Reef Haitian, or Sebae Anemone. Although the shape and tentacle size makes me think it is a Condylactis Anemone. Do you have any other pictures of the Anemone?

I think the LFS got it right.

Here are some other varieties. I can see why it's a tough call.

When I Googled for images, it was even more confusing.

As best i can tell the foot or base is light brown. Or a tan color. It has attached to a live rock and i can only see the top of the foot under the tentacles.

Danj the last pic the Anemone doesn't look too good. I forgot what type of lighting you are using? Also how long as the tank been setup?

I have a 260w PC light. And the tank has been up for just over 3months. Ammonia =0 Nitrites =0 and Nitrates = 15 or less.
Tonight when i got home from work that anemone looked terrible. I dont know what is going on. Last night it ate its usuall krill. Is the color not right??

Hmm it could be that you added the Anemone to a newly established tank, since anemones need to be added to a well matured system preferably 1 year or more. Another reason why the anemone might not be doing too well is because you only have 4.7wpg of PC lighting and Almost all Anemones require high lighting using Metal Halide. How many Anemones do you have in your tank? My advice would be to return all the Anemones and wait until your tank has matured for about another 8-9 months and you invest in metal halide lighting.

This is just my opinion and I'm sure others will post their opinions on this situation.

I have another anemone in the tank in a different spot and it seems to be doing will. And the one u are asking about. The second pic. Now looks ok tonight. I think u are right about i should have waited a little longer. But my feather dusters and shrimp are all doing real well. I have one feather duster that popped its crown and it has all grown back. I am trying to find a halide light that i can afford.
