Most species of Hawkfish can be housed in a 29-30 gallon tank, but what specific Hawkfish were you thinking? Also what type of filtration are you going to be running? Were you thinking or buying an All-glass tank?
Hawkfish love to perch on things including branchy coral, rock structures, and even powerheads. I kept a Dwarf Hawkfish in a ten gallon tank for about 8 months, but then decided to take down the tank so I returned him to the lfs. Feeding time was so much fun as I would drop in a small piece of meaty food in the tank he would jet out from behind the rock and snatch the food. Hawkfish are really fast when they want to be especially during feeding so I would never put a Hawkfish in anything smaller than a 20g if I ever decided to keep one again. I really miss that fish he was my favorite. :(
I forgot the name of it, but its red and white.
