Title: Looking For Ideas - Fav. Piscovorous Fish
Description: What is your favorite?

I'm looking for a good piscovorous fish for my new tank. For those of you who don't know, a piscovore is a fish that eats only live fish. Of course they can be weaned to other foods, but for the most part, live fish make up most of their diet.

Needlenose Gars for example, are a fish that eat only fish. Do you guys have any ideas on what would be a good fish to go in a tank < 50 gallons?

P.S. Get a close look at my avatar if you need another example. :D

i like incectavorus fish like most cichlids cause theres almost nil chance of transfering disease with the exception of pesticides from incet to fish

on the other hand feeders come nasy as hell and almost all the feeders i buy die in weeks from bad conditions they are kept in

im having trouble deciding between

1 tiger oscar
or
2 jack dempseys
or
1 green terror
or
1 red terror
or several smaller cichlids like
4 firemouths
or
4 convicts

this is for a 55

If you want an efficient cichlid piscavore you would need a tank larger then 50gal but I would recommend a Jaguar.

(p.s.. I beleive the fish in your avatar is brooding and not actually eating the small fish).

HOPEFULLY, he was joking about the avatar :) yeah a siver needlenose is a good one. you could try a ropefish or two with a smaller bichir

LoL. I didn't think the fish in the picture was actually eating him, although it is a funny picture, and certainly proves a piscavorous point. :D Fish eating other fish... you know. Jaguar cichlids are very neat looking.

Spartan... can needlefish live in hard alkaline water? Thats what I have been afraid of. Ropefish might be interesting though, however I'm not sure if they can live in my water. Right now I've got a bichir though, a Senegal.

I have to agree with fnesr that if you want the ultimate pecivore some Jags are the way to go. Jags from 1.5 inches are ready to hunt down food and when they get big watch your arms when doing water changes. They had to be the best fish I've kept in past years. The only thing is that for a pair you need at least 90g.

If you want the ultimate piscovorous fish, you should put one of THESE in your tank. :D
