Title: Hi Everyone
Description: I love the water
Coast Runner - February 9, 2006 11:31 PM (GMT)
Hellooo,
Yes I'm new...I live in Australia and I'm married with kids.
I love Tropical fish, I'm not up with all the proper fish names but I'll
try and join in. I have a 4 foot tank - holds about 210 Litres of water.
We have high chlorine levels in our water supply here so we go through alot of fish during a year. We use all the right chemicals but.... :( some just can't take it.
At the moment we have a pair of Electric Yellows my fave, 4 tiger barbs, 2 bala sharks, 2 zebra catfishes, a couple of long sleek algae eaters and a few other smaller fish. Small fish are small but not small enough to be lunch ;) . All the fish tend to stay away from each other and live in harmony. I also have a yabbie called Frank that I've had for a few years now. Bye for now
I look forward to having a chat with you all... :D

Hi Coast Runner, Welcome aboard! Do you keep your Yabbie de-clawed or does it tend to go after the other fish at all? And do you have plants in with him?

Hey CR. Are you in South Australia? We have to dose our water 4 times the amount indicated on the dechlorinator packaging to cope with our chlorine levels! :o

Hey!
No I would never de claw Frank :(
He has hi own big tank. I've tried him in a split tank - wet & dry but he prefers all water. In the winter months I keep him in a warm tank and in the summer a slightly cooler tank. He's had female yabbies in with him before and we've had baby yabbies also. I'd put a pic up but I'm having trouble puting pics into forums.
I've got gravel and rocks in the bottom of the tank and hiddy holes but he prefers his big rock in the middle. I've had him since he was about 5cm long and he's almost 4 yrs old now and is about 20cm long from claw to end of tail (I'm guessing). His colour changes depending on the temp of the tank.
I don't have plants in the tank...We've got an enclosed fish pond out the back and on warm days (not too warm) I put him out in there and he walks around. LOL it's his jail yard walk. His tank gets cleaned often so he's used to me putting my hand and net into his tank. :D

Yep, I'm in SA. We lived up north for years and we never had to use the dechlorinators. But since moving more into a city type atmosphere we've been struggling. Not so much with the Ph levels but with the chlorine. It gives me the sh*ts.

Hi how are ya? I have to say this site is looking good!! :D

I kept a couple of them for about 3 months. They were being kept with guppies, so I did declaw them, and they were kept with plants, which they constantly uprooted. I was hoping someone else had better luck with them than I did, I'd really like to keep them again, but they'd be going in the planted tank again.
