Title: my oppinion
jadefoodog - February 5, 2006 07:21 PM (GMT)
in my opinion theres too may forums for too few members.
why not start with a few generalized forums and add progressivly as you need new forums. that way you know exactly what forums you need and you eliminate extra not used forums. having too many forums early on makes it confusing for new members.
when you have 10k plus members yeah your going to have a whole slew of forums but until you reach 100 id cut it way way back.
like i said its just my opinion so take it however you will

I agree. We tried to keep it at just a few generalized forums, but there are too many for too few members, still. But, I think for now the best way to fix it is to get more members. We won't be adding any new forums until we have at least 1,000 members.

see in my head the easiest way to section everything would be like this
Freshwater
- general
- illneses
- plants
- bottomfeeders
Saltwater
- general
- reef
- illness
- cleaner crews
Site related
- general talk
- help
- comments and sugestions
Hidden
it cuts out alot of the unused forums that can be added later when theres a need .
regular members dont need to see that theres a mod board or a admin board since they cant see whats going on in there anyhow.
anyway im not trying to tell you how to run your site i was just trying to let you know that too many forums confuse people
you could cut it down to
freshwater
saltwater
general
and Site feedback
thats only 4 forums that may be a bit overboard on my part

I don't know that you want to totally reorganize. That would be a pain.
I know it says view new posts, I would just like to be able to click on that and be able to see newest posts listed in order.
It's no fun when you have to hunt through different categories to find new postings
Not to be too critical, I'm sure setting up a forum is a logistical nightmare!!
:D

nah forums arte pretty cut and dry theres a bunch of add ins and plugins and themes to choose from but ive had a fair share of websites and i used to create themes for phpbb and e107.
theres a backend admin control panel you cant see it makes everything pretty easy. takes a while to learn it though

They should be in order of latest post listed on top... except it puts the pinned ones on top no matter what... so then the rest are listed in order after the pinned topics. I'll see if I can't figure out some way around that.

i joined yesterday and i am the 29th member and there have been 10 new members since last night so if we get 10 new members a day in a week we will have 100 members so why bother rearranging the whole site now only to have to change it back so quickly also as more people come on more people will find out and more and more people will join that is how a forum gets big
