Title: New Fish

Went to the store today and picked up a few new fish. Just thought I would share what I brought home.
First I finally located a Khuli Loach. They are very cool looking. My wife thinks they are a snake, but who knows.
My wife has also wanted a goldfish ever since I got back into fishkeeping. I finally broke down and purchased her a solid gold-coloured fancy goldfish. He's really small right now, but if I'm right, he'll be huge in no time at all.
I also decided to do a 'strange' tank. I decided to pick up 3 very fancy looking guppies. I decided to get 3 different varieties, so hopefully they will breed and I will get some strange combinations.
It's strange to see all these different fish in the same tank. A goldfish, a khuli loach, and the guppies. It's very unique, to say the least.
They say goldfish are actually healthier in temperatures between 74-80 degrees, so why can't they be kept with tropical fish? Evidently they can. :D I figured the only difference between goldfish and tropical fish are their feeding requirements. They need different types of food to stay healthy. To solve this I purchased Ocean Nutritions Reef Flake. The fish absolutely go crazy. I tried feeding it to the fish in my other tanks, but it looks like they are going to have to get used to the new food. They weren't excited as the others.
I'll post some pictures and keep you updated on the progress of my 10 gallon.
I'm curious to see if I can adjust the khuli loach to my 8.0+ water. All the fish profiles tell me that they need 6.5 - 7.0 water. Hopefully I'll have that in a few weeks, but we'll see how well he does til then. I know my Dojo Loach likes acid water too, but he's been living in my hard water tank for months now.
I'll keep you guys up to date on how the loach is doing.

My new fish, just brought home yesterday, is a betta. After 8 years of fishkeeping, I've never had one, but I decided I wanted to try something new and he is an interesting little fellow. I had set up a 10 gallon for him and eventually may add a few other small fish to the tank.

Sounds good. Word of advice on the male betta, be sure not to add anything that resembles him. Such as long fins. He may get aggressive. Anything else should be fine.
Welcome to the forum!

Thanks. :)
I was thinking maybe a few harlequin rasboras, possibly some pygmy cories if I can find them. But I'll leave him on his own for a little while.

You know... I have a spare 10 gallon that I keep a variety of small fish in. Right now, it's a single goldfish, a guppy, a celebes rainbow, and now, a male betta. I thought the betta and the guppy would fight, and he did flare up at the goldfish, but other than that, he seems happy and content. He's been extremely peaceful since he has been in there. So, depending on temperment, I'd say it's safe to say as long as you don't put him in with another male betta you should be ok.
