Title: What would YOU do with a spare 30 gallon?

MAZZA_402 - January 31, 2006 01:38 PM (GMT)
Just trying to fish for a few ideas...

If you had a spare 30 gallon, what would you stock in it? It is the 30gL not the 30g cube.

AiWen - February 1, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
I would do a planted tank with a pair of convicts OR...
a rockworked rank with a trio of electric yellow labs OR...
a planted tank with a pair of angels OR...
a shelldweller tank with some multis.

Octoberfest - February 1, 2006 03:19 PM (GMT)
i would plant it with a nice, bushy grass and have 2-3 pair of rams in if.

Sergeant Major - February 1, 2006 03:34 PM (GMT)
I would sell it and buy a 90g. :D

Or, I would do a styro rock backround, dark sandy substrate (possibly mixed with eco-complete), planted with a tall grassy plant... that would look cool. I have no idea what fish I would put in it, but that would look cool.

Mitternacht - February 1, 2006 11:34 PM (GMT)
I'd put something in it, not sure what.

Red K - February 5, 2006 07:39 PM (GMT)
Right now I have a kribensis itch, so I would probably scratch it.

jadefoodog - February 5, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
i would take a 2 inch tall by however long needed and i would make a curved divider for the bottom of the tank and fill the back half with eco complete and the front with black sand. then i would plant the back with wisteria and do the front part of the eco complete in a combo of glosso and java moss and in 2 of the front spost i would do 2 java fern lace plants id have to make a diagram for you guys to fully understand what i mean but it would look cool to me.

in the frint sand i would make a small cave out of slate and other rock

as for fish i would do a few pepper cories and few ottos and 2 blue geo rams.

im sure you woere looking for somethign a little more general and your probably wondering how i came up with something that specific in a short amount of time.

lol ive been planning a 29g for a few months now . just waiting to get it till after i get my 55g

MAZZA_402 - February 6, 2006 03:19 PM (GMT)
Great idea jadefoodog. I would have never thought about that. What would you use as a divider?

jadefoodog - February 7, 2006 12:41 AM (GMT)
thin plexi glass

2" x however long the curve requires

Leema - February 7, 2006 12:44 AM (GMT)
Not sure... Probably divide it up for bettas. Am kind of interested in trying my luck with them at the moment. ^_^
Or sell and get three 10 gallons. B)

jadefoodog - February 7, 2006 01:04 AM (GMT)
for the price of a 30g you could get like 8-10 10g tanks

Leema - February 7, 2006 01:46 AM (GMT)
I've never looked at the prices of tanks any smaller than my ~50gallon. So I'm not really up to scratch with prices.

bartier - February 7, 2006 05:39 AM (GMT)
i would probably make a mini version of my dam in my backyard with guppies, gudgeons, plants and insects but i am guessing this isn't for you unless you want to come over to my house :P

FishyFry - February 11, 2006 05:13 PM (GMT)
I would build a Paludarium and put some Firebelly Toads in it.

fnesr - February 11, 2006 11:35 PM (GMT)

In a 30g I'd breed convicts or blue/port acara (allready do ).

If I was starting a new one today I'd probally go with a pair of meeki (fm's) and perhaps have a go at some real plants. Or possibly have a go at a small tang set-up with leluipi or brichardi.

Polaris.northstar - February 12, 2006 12:47 AM (GMT)
I would use it as a liverock tank with some clown fish in there (small ones)

Sergeant Major - February 12, 2006 12:51 AM (GMT)
I would make a reef tank out of it, with a few hermit crabs, perhaps a couple of fish (don't know what kind), and some other oddballs (don't know what kind).

Mycroft Holmes - February 12, 2006 02:52 PM (GMT)
I second the tang. idea. Rockwork, java fern and leleupi.

Hmm. Have always thought about doing something like that. A whole eco-system if you will.

Great ideas btw. You guys have certainly got my imagination rolling.

Mitternacht - February 13, 2006 03:03 AM (GMT)
I got my 29(?) gallon for $5. :P
