i ike the reef banner, and i would recomend changing the finding nemo skin...... to cartoonish.

Well don't worry, we still have all the old stuff queued up so we can change back quickly, depending on what people think of this new banner. I'm personally liking this new banner... but I also liked the nemo buttons... so we'll see.

Are we leaning more towards a freshwater look, a saltwater look, or a mix of both, or something general?

i prefer the saltwater skin personally however do you think maybe you should just have a bunch of different kinds of fish or would that look stupid

I thought about that, but it's been done too many times before. I'm afraid that no matter how I did it, it would inevitably look just like someone else's site.

I just made this. (The only picture that is mine is the background freshwater tank. I stole the rest from Google.) But you get the idea... I think this would be the best look. I think it's a good idea to combine fresh and salt, otherwise individuals may think "oh this forum doesn't cater for marine/fresh" depending on what you put on there.

I am working on a banner as well, It's part of what I do for a living (web design and graphics design and a fair few other things) i'll post it soon

I like the original one best. Is there one that represents most aspects of the site rather than just the one (saltwater)? One other thing, the site name is difficult to read in the new banner.

I like the new banner. Good idea about combining salt/fresh pictures. I like the idea of lots of different fish pictures. Gives a site a unique look.

Of course, I'm incredibly partial to anything involving rummynose tetra.

I think it would be cool to change the banner every once in a while to create variety.

Maybe it'd be good to have a GIF banner that changed from a salt water scene to a freshwater scene?

Hmm the GIF doesn't sound bad. It may be cool to have a changing banner.

Now you're talkin'! A morphing banner with half a dozen scenes or so. I especially like the ones where moving your mouse across the banner makes movement in the "water".

but anyhow i never look at the banner but if i were you i would create something that blends with the background color on the forum and insead of alot of pictures i would do a solid color profile of a fish that cant clearly be determined of either fresh or salt . like a convict with no distinct charecteristics. would look good in black with a slight alpha fade

But it's two different scenes from the same tank. Which isn't as effective as what I'm suggesting. ;)

I like the banners with photos such as what is up now. The cartoony stuff makes it kind of look like something out of a 50's movie. :) Not that the banner isn't cute, I just don't know if that's the right look. :D

I like the 50's look, but Catlover has a point. I put one of the 3 samples over the existing banner and it just didn't cut it. So far, I like Leema's the best

I like the Nemo one, anything bright and colourful is good.
