Title: Sponge Care
Sergeant Major - March 29, 2007 02:52 AM (GMT)
Well tomorrow I'm getting my first sponge. It's a red tree sponge. I'm excited, even though they pretty much just sit there. I've wanted a sponge for a while, but havn't been able to afford one. I'm a little nervous, too though, because I have to admit that I know very little about it.

Do you happen to know the exact species? Depending on the species Tree Sponges require good water quality, strong water movement, and supplemental feedings. Also do not expose the Sponge to air.

It's a Ptilocaulis sp... I know sponges help improve water quality (one of the reasons I want it), and that they require excellent water quality to begin with (which I'm unsure of to be honest... my green algae and xenia are thriving, which is indicative of a dirty tank, but all tests show 0-3 ppm across the board) Here's a pic of the variety, from liveaquaria.com
It won't actually arrive until tomorrow afternoon though... and I have a class in the morning, so it will be very difficult to sit through that class.
