Because we've had such a continuing problem with spam, we've enacted further anti-spam measures.
These measures require all new members to make at least one post in the Introductions forum where they won't be able to post pictures with the img tag, post links with the http:// tag, upload pictures, or use the doHTML tag to cover-up the same things.
For the next 24-48 hours I have removed all ban settings (suspended accounts will remain suspended) to give this new method a good test with the worst spammers. If it works, great, if not, we'll go a step further and moderate all posts from the 'new member' member group.

Well it probably would have worked a lot better if I had set it up properly, instead of going from validating to new member, they were still going from validating to member... heh, fixed now though, I hope... won't know til some more bots register though... I renamed the new member group to member, and the member group to veteran member.

Well, now that it's been a while, what do you think? We've still been getting some drive by guest spam in the ER, but overall there has been a reduction. We could take it another step and close off the ER from guest posts, but I really hate to do that, since we've helped some guests who really needed help.

Yes, prior, when I was deleting pharmacy and porn spam nearly daily. Looking forward to the results of your changes. :)

You should already be seeing the results... I know I havn't seen any member spam in at least a week... there's been a few guest spams in the ER forum still... but not in any of the members sections in a while.

You know, 2 and 3 spams a day in the E.R. forum is too many to bother with... I think I will totally close off guests from posting at all...

Understood, SM. We're not getting a lot of the ER related Guest posts right now anyway.
