Title: 30 gallon tall

What could a 30 g tall be used for? I've found a source that's selling quite a few tanks really cheap. He said he had about 20-30 30 gallon talls, which are 24x12x24. Seems like a big square. I'm not really sure what I could use it for, but I thought I might pick up a few if they we're useful. The dimensions are 24 x 12½ x 25 and here's a link to a picture http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewPicture&lPictID=57. i think if I buy a few plus some accessories that I can get a great deal. They seem a bit tall, though. Could these be used for a sump or refugium? Or are they just too tall? He also said he had a 55 gallon, and a 50 gallon with some cracks but it still held water that he'd give away. I'm going to go take a look at all of them.

What do you guys think? It's a pet store that's gone out of business, so he's got quite a few tanks and equipment.

A 29 gallon is good for a fuge.

I don't see why they can't be used for a sump. You could also use them for a display tank, or even use one for mixing saltwater for water changes. As long has they don't leak and you can find a use for them then yeah purchase some especially if they are cheap.

I was thinking maybe a dual level ... land along in the back up above a water space out in front with a waterfall from one of the sides. A small reptile of some sort to hang out in the land plants and a school of small fish for the water area. River tank maybe?

Not a bad idea there. I've been contemplating the idea for some time now. Not sure what kind of maintenance is involved with caring for herps, though.

Well I konw of one maintenance item I have a problem getting around for Herps or reptiles... live food. :P I was checking into Fire Belly Toads... great looking animals. They remind me of frogs in vinyl frog suits. But, I have been advised, they will not appreciate dead crickets... gotta be live ones. ... not to mention the fact that they could poison the fish.

FishyFry: Yeah Fire Bellied Toads need to be fed live crickets which isn't that bad in my opinion. The FBT's release a toxin which can be dangerous to the other inhabitants that are kept with them and even the Toads themselves. This is why a good filter and/or frequent water changes is a must. They really are nice looking though.

MAZZA: For a 30g you have many options for keeping reptiles. Fire Bellied Toads would do well in such a tank size. You could comfortably house 3-6 Toads in a 30g just make sure you have both land as well as a water section. Leopard Geckos are great first reptiles and you should be able to keep one in the tank. Crested Geckos are always great for someones first reptile.
