General Comments: Hawkfish are a very interesting group of fish and are very popular in the saltwater hobby. There are many species of Hawkfish and most stay relatively small which make them great for medium sized tanks. They should be introduced into a tank with plenty of live rock and other structure for perching as well as hiding. Other than rock struture they will perch on coral, powerheads, algae magnets, and even lay on the substrate once adjusted to its environment. There are mixed opinions and personal experiences on whether or not this fish is reef safe. The reason why caution should be used when housing this fish in a reef tank is because they have a reputation for attacking ornamental shrimp and even small Hermits and snails. There are many people who have had great success with keeping Hawkfish in reef tanks while others have not. They will however act peacefully towards fellow tankmates although I don't recommend housing two Hawkfish in the same tank as they will fight.
