Title: Substrate, Base Rock and Shrimp
Sergeant Major - January 7, 2007 04:24 AM (GMT)
Just thought I'd share my plans for my 29g SW tank... going to buy some CaribSea Seaflor Super Reef Sand (40 lbs), and 2-3 more pieces of base rock, and a Scarlett Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. It's been a while since I've done anything with the 29g, and at some point, I'd like to get it to the point where a bulb tip anemone can survive, but I need more and better substrate and Live Rock before my water quality will be up to par for trying something new like that. So for now I'm going to stick with those three things. Here's a pic of the tank as it is now:

Looking good matey, keep us up to date with any more pics, changes or additions you make to the system...

I'm actually very excited about this... it's odd I know. But it's been a long time since I've done anything with this tank. I'm also going to try to learn how to drill a tank properly to possibly put in a 10g sump.

The tank looks great. So you are planning on keeping a Bubble Tip Anemone in this tank. How long has your tank been setup? because one of the keys to keeping Anemones is introducing one to an established tank. If you don't mind I have a few things that will help with improving water quality that I would like to share with you?
- Hooking up a refugium.
- Adding a protein skimmer.
- Try and aim for at least 1lb of LR per gallon of water.
- Make sure you have plenty of detrivores to help with consuming detritus.
- Installing a HOB or similar filter filled with carbon. Will help with water clarity, odors, and any toxins released by the inhabitants.
BTW what lighting do you have over the tank?

One day I will have an anemone in that tank, but my budget needs to catch up to the requirements.
The tank has been set up and running for about 10 months or so. It's the 29g in my sig. It has an Exclipse III hood on it with a carbon filter and bio-wheel in the hood, with 2 flourescent bulbs, producing about 2000 total lumens. Planning on getting more LR and detriovores before the anemone... would like to get a sump/refugeeum, but that again depends heavily on budget.
