I tore down my saltwater tank, because the water was so murky and all of my fish were falling ill with ich. The water was seeminly fresh smelling, despite... but wait what lurked at the bottom a stench of rotten eggs that could knock me out. I was up all night sanitizing the tank for the angelfish( I'm going to do a freshwater angelfish tank). I'm returning the remaining fish to the LFS. I know this is not normal. Why did it smell so bad? what caused it. i had a protein skimmer, filter, and air pump.

To tell you the truth, I've never heard of anything like that. Did you just add the aragonite? Or is the tank relatively new? Perhaps it was a rapid increase in ammonia or nitrite, or perhaps you had a sudden loss of beneficial bacteria. Water can smell pretty bad when you are going through a cycle or when your tank has to "re-cycle". Did you lose any fish? How are your parameters looking?

Sounds like anaerobic pockets?
