:o Like most of I got started with freshwater aquaria and later progressed to saltwater with live rock, but I am disappointed with the fragility of marine fish, and watching them die. My tank has been plagued with a case of marine ich. so I lost one butterfly already, and another butterfly is infected too I fear. It'sjust a matter of the soon to be infected to die. My passion with freshwater fish are angelfish. I have a 37 tall gallon tank which is suitable for angelfish- they like the extra height. How do I sterilize the tank to make it safe and get rid of the ich infection left in the tank. I know it's not advisable to use antibacterial soaps. How about a bleach solution?

Bleach may be a good solution. Rinse it and like 2-3 times in hot water, Let it sit out for a dazy or 2 then rinse it again.

What was your water paraments for your SW tank?

There are some marine fish out there that are surprisingly tough. I can't tell you what my clownfish and yellow watchman goby and yellowtail damsel had to go through when I had to leave the house for about a month. I had someone feeding them and turning the lights on and off, but for some reason I didn't think to ask them to top the tank off. Needless to say half the tank evaporated and I lost a few corals, but the fish we're swimming all over the place. I've not read up much on butterflies, but as with freshwater fish as well, there are sturdy fish and fragile fish.

Sorry your marine experience didn't go as planned, but it sounds like you have a nice freshwater tank planned. If my water weren't as hard as concrete I'd love to have an angelfish tank. Like they've already said, a good bleach solution to sanitize the tank, then rinse a few times, let it dry, and you should be good to go. No marine diseases are going to survive in freshwater anyway. One way to treat marine ich is to put the fish into freshwater, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
