i think there is some thing wrong my malawi cichlids they have white cloudy patches on them iv looked in a few books and come up with 2 suspect diseases
1 tetrahymena
2 chilodonella

can any one help and give me some advice im unsure what to use to treat them and id like to find out sooner rather than later. :(

nitrate is 0

malawi cichlids and clown loaches and 1 common plec

I think a ph of 8.0 is better for malawi cichlid.

I don't think 0.5 is going to make to much of a difference after all fish can adjust to small changes in the aquarium compared with there natural habitat

O my bad, I was thinking they were the cichlid with high ph. Is it like a cotton wooly thing? Or white dots?

i think its caused because my ph is not high enough a few aquatic retailers have said this as i phoned some for some advice iv boosted my ph up and also added some anti bacterial treatment so lets see if this works hopefully it will. ive been told i should see improvement in a few days ill let you know how things go the fish all seem to be ok in there selfs

as of yesterday since i treated my tank there has been a little improvenent the fish that had just a few small patches have seem to have healed the fish that was the worst i cant see any changes. i cant belive how much bother your ph can cause im glad that my ph is exactly 8.0 now :) :up: ill be testing my ph daily for the next week or so then once a week after the treatment has stopped iv also bought some vitimins to add to the fish food witch they will get every other day. It says you should give your cichlids a varied diet mine get :- tetra doromin for cichlids
aquarian tropical flake
sera vipagran granulated
tetra pleco wafers
(for the plec ciclids eat it 2)
and mix brine shrimp 4 cichlids
i mix the vitimins in with the brine shrimp mix.

all my fish seem to be clear looks like i caught it in time i didnt lose any fish thankfully. thanks to those who said ph could of been a problem iv tested my water today every thing is spot on especially my ph wich is 8.2 now. im over the moon as my fish mean the world to me.

Thats good to hear. Fishes do mean alot to me to, since I have expensive ones. :)
