Hi, I hope someone can help. My friends tank has a whitetish film on the stones and on the plastic plants. Its it's kinda fuzzy cotton like. I've had a tank for many years and have never seen anything like this.
does anyone know what this is, and how to get rid of it?

Hi Sue. Sorry things are a little slow around here lately.
I have had the problem once in the past. Not sure what caused it to begin with, but I do recall I had been neglecting my tanks at the time, mostly not changing the water frequently enough. I was not keeping any snails at the time either. Ramshorn snails and frequent water changes will keep the problem under control. In the meantime, remove what items can be and rinse them off in a bucket of declorinated water. Removing by hand is the best solution at this point and gives a good starting point for good maintenance from now on. Give us informed. :)
One question... what is the current lighting in the tank?
