Title: My replacement chicks
bartier - June 4, 2006 12:12 PM (GMT)
Well we have had chickens for quite a few months now and all five had been doing great until about two weeks ago when for the first time we forgot to close them up at night. Anyway long stor short the fox came and we ended with three chickens.
So today we went to the local produce shop and bought two new chickens both of the a cross between road island red x isa brown (can't remember the name of the cross breed) which are like the other 5 (including the 2 we lost) are. They are currently living in a box with light too keep them warm and a bowl for water and a bowl for food and they are going great. :):):)

Very cute! Apart from the red heads, they look like the buff orpington I have. Except mine's a month old already. Have you gotten to the point of getting eggs from them yet?
Too bad you don't live closer, I'd give you some of my extra wyandottes. I've got 11 and only want about 7 maximum.

They don't start laying till about 18 months (not positive on that) our other chickens have been laying for ages we struggle to keep up with the egg eating.
