Title: My new Pico
Eznet2u - May 28, 2006 03:22 PM (GMT)
This hobby has become very addictive to me, I just created a betta tank.
My new custom S/W tank just arrived...Where can I put another tank?
I made this from a crystal vase, gravel from one of the 55g tanks and
a Water Hyacynth (sp). Added Ghost shrimp, and one of the prettiest
Bettas I have ever seen. His name is Joe.
Have a look.

He's doing great!

He flares at the shrimp, but the shrimp can move into the
roots of the plant in a blink, and he is left looking around thinking he's lost his mind. :D

That is the coolest betta I have ever seen.

That's a really nice betta home!! I've recently gotten into the "Mini" aquascaping kinda stuff too, I've got several experimental nano tanks going on right now. However, I'd be careful with the ghost shrimp, I've had them with one betta and had success, but a different betta ate one of his ghost shrimp buddies, so it's a toss up. It's good they have a place to hide though.
However, be careful with the water hyacinth. Make sure it doesn't grow so that it completely covers the surface area of the water, as bettas need ample room to come up and get air due to their labyrinth organs. If the tank isn't filtered, he'll definitely need the extra air. :D I think you have a sponge filter in there though? I can't tell from the pics, lol.
It's a really lovely little tank though, and your betta is BEAUTIFUL!! :D

Hi all,
Thanks for the compliments. I think the same, It is an awesome looking fish.
FIZZ - The Shrimp is holding his own, but if he doesn't make it, He is a FEEDER
shrimp. :P
The vase is approx. 2 gals. We will do water changes about 2-3 times
a week to keep everything in order. There isn't much to it, just changing about
18oz. each time.
If the water hyacinth gets to big, I'll throw it in the pond, and get a smaller
one.
No filter in the tank, except for the "live" gravel, doing water changes seems
to keep everything in line.
I am going to be making a "Nano" gravel vac because this little guy can POOP! ;)

Thanks for the comments.
I am sorry to say Fizz (the shrimp) did not make it.
As Joe (the Betta) became used to his new home,
he decided to kick out his roommate. Fizz has gone
flat. :(
Hi Catlover, as far as where I got him, I got him at
the LFS. I was there while they were unloading thier
order and couldn't resist.
On that note, have any of you seen how they are
shipped?
It is a tiny 1.5 x 1.5 sealed bag with 1/2oz. of water
in the bottom. Luckily it was a cool day, or he would
have boiled in the 4 blocks home. I had my daughter
hold it in a larger bag, as I was afraid her hand would
over-heat the bag.

Strange comment:
I have never seen my betta poop. Obviously he does since he eats like a pig. He lives in a 10 gallon, so maybe I've just never seen it. Have any of y'all noticed the same thing with bettas?
I know, weird thought

I consider my bettas to be discreet poopers. :D

I am sure you will see soon enough.

 Sorry, had to ask.
Maybe it just disappears in the 10 gallon or goes into the power filter. I feed him more than I think you are technically supposed to feed a betta, but he is very active in his 10 gallon, so maybe I just don't see it.
... maybe he is also a discreet pooper!
